Create your business

Set up your first business — industry, country, time zone, and name.

ShopRunner organises everything around a business (the internal name is "organisation", but the app says business). A business has one Owner, can have many shops, and contains all your staff, lists, suppliers, and settings.

Creating your first business

  1. Open the app for the first time, or tap Menu → Create your own business.
  2. Pick your industry - corner shop, café, restaurant, hardware store, and so on. The picker also covers care homes, schools, hospitals, and other non-retail businesses.
  3. Confirm your country (drives currency, units, and tax defaults).
  4. Pick a time zone (auto-detected from your country in most cases).
  5. Name your business.
  6. Add your first shop - see the next article.

Industry profile affects defaults

The industry you pick changes things across the app - labelling ("shop" vs "café" vs "restaurant"), default list categories, department layout, and which features show up in Menu. You can change the industry later in business settings but expect a few moments of re-labelling.

Multiple businesses

If you run more than one business - for example, two unrelated cafés - you can create a separate business for each. Switch between them in the shop switcher. Staff and lists are scoped per-business.
